I know its not our generation, but!

GRESHAM, Wis. - Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest." Recent news stories told how Oresnik had just 1,200 miles to go before reaching the milestone in the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that he bought with 41,000 miles on it in 1996 and used in his business, distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest. At the time, he was getting his latest oil change — the kind of regular maintenance he credits with helping to keep the truck going so long. He said he's had the truck's oil changed more than 300 times. It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be rethreaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that."
He passed the million-mile mark Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way back home to Catawba, located in the north in Price County, about an hour west of Rhinelander. He was on County Highway V southeast of Fond du Lac.
On hand was a film crew from Chevrolet's public relations and advertising company, and he was speaking live to Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered." A news crew from CBS had been with him earlier in the day. "I wont say it was relief ... it was exhilarating," Oresnik said later during a stop in Gresham where he has one of his longtime customers. "This truck has been so dependable over the years." Now that it's made history, the truck could be headed back to the automaker or Shell Oil. Oresnik said there's been some interested in GM or Shell Oil buying it.

I am pretty sure several means 3 not 7?
I have worked on fleet rigs before and have had to re thread drain plugs. We usually replaced the oil pan when it came around to the third time!

Strange thing is he indicated he was getting rid of it as Shell Oil or GM were wanting to buy it...

Several is more than a few and less than a lot and is intentionally unquantified. lol

Well, however you quantify "few", that 'old girl' has got a few miles under it.  ;D

You'll see it on the next Chevy commercial w/ Bob Segar singing, "like a rock" if Chevy buys it.

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled, Oresnik said.

my 2000 freightliner classic daycab with the cat c12 has a 1,600,000 miles on it. Not over the road miles either these are all short run miles. The truck runs 24 hours monday thru friday. I drive it at night and a guy drives it during the day.

I dont see why a chevy truck couldnt do it if the miles are racked up all highway and done in a pretty short time

i just dont under stand is all..one millon miles is alot...Even semis need a over haul...Thats why they use cylinder sleeves...
i would of thought for sure a piston ring or bearing would of went in that amount of time oil change or not is it luck?
That and it did say or not how many heads and gaskits ??

91 must be a great year.  My 91 sub has 191,000 on it right now and doesn't use a drop of oil b/w changes.  I drive her pretty hard pulling my camper and stuff and she has never given me any problem (except for a wire tbi plug) and runs strong. I'm hoping to get another 200k or 300k more miles on it.  ;)  (I have put a new a/c compressor on it and a new distributor/coil)

It could be a 1991 thing..my uncle has a '91 4 door 4wd s-10 blazer he used on his rural mail route for about 10 years, and it has 322k miles on it and the 4.3 STILL doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil. The entire suspension and chassis is beat to death though.
