creating 1986 shortbox dually

thinking of making my 86 shortbox into a dually.
anyone try this?? Hoping i just need a dually rearend and the boxside 'flares' or stepside
'rear fenders' and fab them into my fleetside box.
any ideas would be appreciated....thanks

Kinda freaky. I passed one today, I came home and was going to tell you guys about it. It was a short bed dually, had a 91 style grille, push bar, what looked to be about a 4" suspension lift, (6) 36ishX9.50ish Buckshots. Had plain steel bud wheels. Was all Satin black, a little rough in the body dept.

yea, i just saved every pic of that ebay dually...that is awesome...has the 89-91 interior in it too...at least the dash/door trim...

That looks to be a first class piece, however not to be a stone buster, but a standard shortbed wheelbase truck would be impractical at best & most likely a scary handful if you tried to pull something that you needed the capacity of a dually. The ride of it would have to be poor also. You need length to help the keep the front axle weighted enough to make it handle & track where your not sawing the wheel all the time. Those converted Suburbans are the right idea, long & heavy. Now get yourself a 4dr truck & do a 6ft. bed conversion, that would be a slick looking, practical truck! Just my thoughts, Lorne

Looking for some input guys. Can I use my heavy-half leafs with the dually rearend?What about driveshaft? (2WD) Can anyone anticipate any
other things to watch for? I think its a great looking and unique setup! Not using truck for towing at all.

Someone posted pix a while back of a Blazer dually and like that ebay one, from the right angle it looked cool but from other angles it looked absolutely atrocious.

knowledge on making it work......would this be a simple bolt in , or am i missing something?

nothing is a simple bolt in... you'd need a driveshaft, brake cables, dually wheels and a couple strong buddies.

Why do I need a driveshaft? Is it the length that will be different or a
strength issue? I have a longbox 2WD dually parts truck.Do you know any
reason why I could not use my 3/4 ton leafs with the dually rear?
