New Name For Chevyduty.com
« on: March 31, 2006, 12:25:00 am »
I recently received this email from chevyduty.com and I wonder if it will affect the name of this site too. Sure hope not.

Classic Parts of America Mar-30-06 01:31 PM
Dear Forum Member,
As a truck restorer you know what it means to make modifications to make something better. That's what we're now doing with our company.

Recently General Motors asked Chevy Duty to discontinue using 'Chevy' in its name. We looked at this requested change as a starting point to not only change the name, but change other parts of our business as well. We want to make the restoration experience better for you, our customer.

We're excited to announce that in a few weeks, Chevy Duty will become Classic Parts of America. With Classic Parts of America you'll still get the greatest selection of parts, pricing and service for your truck restorations. And, we're improving processes so you'll get your orders more efficiently.

Look for the new Classic Parts of America logo on our website and future catalogs. And remember...

The name may change but our commitment to serving you never will.

Thanks,

Mark Jansen
President
Classic Parts of America ...formerly known as Chevy Duty.

Ford (the bad F word), did the same thing years back and started filing lawsuits on sites that were using any Ford brand, make, and model name without, as they say, "expressed written consent". I figured it wouldn't be too long before everyone else followed suit.

With some of the less than respectable vehicles chevy slaps it's name on, I can't believe they are throwing a fit about their name being used on some really cool sites. They should take it as a compliment that people think enough of their vehicles that they felt it nessecary to start a forum to discuss their cars and trucks. I would be more upset at seeing "chevy" plastered on the back of a metro or aveo than on a cool website. If the big 3 starts doing this to everybody how are you going to be able to search for anything vehicle related?

I haven't heard anything from them about this, but as far as I know they can't touch the website since I own it.  My actual business name is Chris Lucas Enterprises, of which operates Captkaos Customs and 73-87chevytrucks.com and is part owner in Grace Motorsports.

I am wondering if Chevy Duty got hit because the business name is actually Chevy Duty?

I can't say for sure about the Chevy Duty deal, but Ford was nailing ALL sites with a Ford product name. Even a site that I was a member of for a while had to change their name from Cool Cougars to CoolCats to escape the Blue Ovals Green Buree's.
