Q-jet problems

i have an 84 gmc 3/4ton...it has a Q-jet with some problems....when im driving it, if you go up a hill or just down a straight and you push the gas to much is "surges" i guess you could call it...i rebuilt it a little while ago and im thinking that the float isnt adjusted right....so that the bowl fills up then you push the gas and it uses whats in the bowl and the float isnt where its supposed to be so its not putting the right amount of gas in the bowl......if anyone knows what would be causing this please let me know

I find that as these trucks get older a lot of folks overlook the ignition systems of these trucks. The Vacuum advance diaphrams get hard and don't allow the advance/retard to function properly. The weights get rusty and sticky. No amount of carb work will overcome a malfunctioning ignition.

Have you checked your fuel pressure and your ignition curve?

are these trucks supposed to start right up when theyre warmed up...because mine it starts but you have to touch the gas to get the idle up....and the idle isnt too low cause once you do that it idles fine.....and also when its cold and you start it....i have to pump the gas a little several times for it to start.....but i havent done eather of those...i dont know how to check the fuel pressure or the ignition curve
