Rustoleum vs. Chassis Saver on surface rust

The new diff I bought is covered in surface rust. None of it is flaky rust, just surface from sitting outside for a year in our wet climate. I planned on giving it a wash in brake or carb cleaner to degrease, and then in Super Clean to remove any solvents or left over grease/oil. After that I figured I'd go over it with the wire wheel in my hand drill. I planned on painting it gloss black with the Chassis Saver, but I was thinking about spraying it with Rustoleum. I don't want any surface rust spots coming back through it though and I have suspicions that the spray bomb would allow that. I don't think the brushed-on Chassis Saver would. Opinions?  A 1 quart can of Chassis Saver locally is about $44.

I would go with Chassis Saver over Rustoleum.

There is no contest. Chassis Saver is about 1,000% better than Rust Oleum, even brush on Rust Oleum

I'm convinced!  Chassis Saver it is.  Would that stuff be okay you think on the outside of rear brake drums?

If you have time and would like a nice clean surface to start from then check out Langley U-Blast.  I think they can accommodate a diff as I saw some larger pieces sitting on pallets.

POR 15 is also great stuff. 
can be picked up threw mopac or lordco.  not cheap..but stands up extremly well

Indeed, POR15 is cool stuff. I have a tiny 4 oz. can of it that I bought at Mopac when they were still at their Surrey store. Paid $11 I believe it was. I used it on my cab corner repair piece. Since I'm looking at buying a 1 qt. can, paying $44 for Chassis Saver, which is reputed to be exactly the same, is much cheaper than buying the same size can of POR15.

I have also been very satisfied with the results using POR-15 on both my frame (black) and my rims (silver).  When I first read about the stuff I don't think Lordco carried it at that time so I just ordered it direct from the Canadian wholesaler http://www.por15canada.com/can/index.htm .  Easy to order and it came nicely boxed up in a few days.  Pretty sure is worked out cheaper than what Lordco or Mopac can offer it for including the shipping. 

I just purchased the POW-R-Liner from them a couple weeks ago but haven't yet had time to spray it onto my truck bed.  I post some pics when finished.

Tip: If you do end up going direct, go with the six pack, as the shelf live isn't too good once the can is opened

hi,
I am using eastwood rust encapsulator on the frame i am restoring. It is a 2 step process. The surface must be pretreated with their rust converter first. They claim that rust will never come back. you can find them online. Fairly expensive though.
