QUESTION ON OIL PUMP CHANGE

I have a question on oil pump change i plan on doing to my motor. First one is how do i make it line up with my dist. Second it is a high volume pump do i need to primer it and does the oil pump screen have to be weld on to the pump.

To line it up w/ the distributor shaft, just turn it slightly until it lines up and will go flush to the block.  Yes, you have to prime it.  If not, your engine will initially start kinda dry.  You don't want that.  As for welding the screen, some do that as insurance. I didn't, but, it is still on there.

Don't use a high volume oil pump unless you plan on putting on a high capacity oil pan. Fit the pick up screen to the pump and have it facing down. Use the pan to push it into position and then remove the pan again. Draw a witness mark and then point the screen towards the pan again and once again install the pan. If your witness marks line up again install the pickup screen all the way. Once you install the pan with the gaket you will have perfect clearance and the pick up nearest the bottom of the pan. Do NOT weld it with heat. Use a cold weld like JB weld. Heating the pump with a welder is a BAD idea. It can easily warp the cover and the spring will lose it's temper.

On a side note, why are you replacing the pump?
