Some questions on lifting a 1/2 ton

Hey guys. I have a 85 Chevy long box, 1/2 ton. ITs lifted 8 in right now. I want to go to about 12" Will have I have extend my drive shafts? also are 3/4 ton leaf springs bigger than 1/2 ton? will putting 3/4 ton leafs and use my 6 in blocks work? It already has extended brake lines. Im not looking to buy a pro kit. Im just wondering what I will need. I want to go to 38" tires and give it more lift. What do ya think?

Yes, you will have to extend your drive shafts. The 3/4 ton springs with blocks will not give you enough lift do you have or are you putting on 12" front springs? My 85 k10 has 12" suspension with 3" body lift it use to have 44" tires I switched to 38.5" with the same lift.

JR how did you get your bumpers moved up to match your body lift. did you make brackets or did you buy them some place?

The way that front bumper mounts you have to take off the original mounts and use the stock existing bolt holes all I did was put a mount on top of the frame redrilled a hole in it and put the bottom bolt in the one on top of the frame and the top one to the new one that I drilled. When I had a rear bumper I did the same thing but I took it off and replaced it with a rollpan. With Ohio lift laws I thought they would like it if I didn't have a rear bumper. I also moved the gas tank brackets so it wouldn't hang down pretty easy fix there too.

What im thinking about doing since im doing this on a budjet. Is 6in Shackels, 3" blocks for the rear, and then 10In springs for the front. I already have extended brake lines. I think that should be fine what do u think?

Personally, I would use 4" springs and a shackle fip kit useally gives you 4 more inches and maybe a 2" block tapered to adjust your pinion angle. And you'll still need to lengthen your driveshaft. Also tryiing to do it on a budget is one thing but you got to make it safe. You don't want to keep blowing u-joints mine has been done for 14 years I've never lost a u-joint.
