Just be carefull when taking that CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating) paint off

Ok, I wasn't aware of the chemical resistant coating.  Are you talking the whole paint job?

Yes the outside paint we used to have to wear our MOPP suit and a good mask when ever going near it (taking it off or touching it up)

Thanks, good to know.  That sounds like bad stuff, I would wear a mask anyway but a suit is necessary?  Heres a couple pics in daylight.

For now it will stay the way it is.  Long term project will be a 4 link suspension and a lot of cutting and tubing work with a full cage.  The diesel will stay as long as it runs.  When that goes it will be time for a gas motor with some hp.

CARC is not a big deal.  It is just a 1 or 2K urethane made to gov. specs.  You treat the repaint the same as any other paint using dust masks when sanding, no big deal.  Actually if the body is sound you have a great base to start with.  My company is one of the leaders in supplying CARC to OEM.

Ditto on the normal protection. Most of these I have come in contact with have already been resprayed by a municipality. Problem is when and if the govt. repainted them they didn't bother to sand them. So there newer paint did not stick worth crap, no mechanical bond. So the colors used later on did not stay on the truck very well as what it was sprayed over was not adhered. I have striped a few of these down to the original OEM camo finish with nothing more than a razor scraper. As far as sanding the original finish. A decent dust mask in a well ventilated area, or cheap resporator will be fine. Blow your self off good and often, then a nice long shower after.
Cool rig, one of these days I will start on mine, bought it a few years back with no running gear, interior, and missing some of the glass.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Back when I was being trainned in Auto Repair and Refinishing, we had a few of these Blazers,Pickups, and a couple Huey Heli's to refinish for the local Search and Rescue.....  We weren't allowed to go anywhere near them, without a good charcoal respirators, gloves,Full Wrap Non-Vent Goggles,Painter's Suit, and a Painter's Hood....  That stuff was supposed to be not only bad for your lungs, but it would do a number on your skin, or eyes.....

We were told that if any of the paint was to come into contact with our skin, eyes, etc, we would be treated to a nice Haz-Mat Decontamination Scrub Shower :o :o

Here's a Painter's Hood for you

Make sure you clean your shoes before you try tracking any of the dust in your house too!

Just a note, I have a fresh air respirator, very nice unit.  I am not worried about air supply.  But I deffinately am going to approach it a different way.  I want to be able to use this truck in trails etc and scuff and paint as needed but not sure how I want to attack it now, I wanted to weld patches on it as needed to repair rust, they are saying not to heat this stuff with a welder and not to grind it.
