My '76 C10 came to me with a Vortec 383cu in crate engine which was a good incentive to purchase I thought, whilst idly browsing Summit racing site for Vortec information came across spark plugs and realised they were taper seat long reach and although I need to check tomorrow I'm pretty sure the plugs in the engine currently are short reach! Anyway like I said I'll pull one in the morning if it ever stops raining and see whats in there. Could explain why my truck is so thirsty! Hi all, haven't done much to the truck for a while so thought I'd have another go at setting up my carb, it's a Street Avenger of I think 670cfm the numbers on the upper body are 80670-1 and 1682. The engine is a 383 crate engine which it came to me with but beyond that I don't have any build details, I think the heads are Vortec as the centre bolts of the inlet manifold are at an angle to the joint face with the heads, no idea what the cam is although there was a Crane Cams sticker on the slam panel until I painted it but just the California info. I have an AFR gauge and have the idle set at around 13 at a 750 rpm idle with the engine warmed up until the electric fan cuts in. Distributor is an MSD high energy coil in cap electronic unit with vacuum advance. I have 75 jets in the primary which seem to give good AFR readings across the revs, you can see the power valve opening as the revs climb and AFR is 13 ish all the way. This is all running light on my driveway as it's blocked in by our Moho just now so don't know what will happen when the secondaries chime in. What size mains would you suggest as a starting point for the secondaries? I have a pair of 85s to go in or would another size be better? What colour springs would you suggest to go in the secondary vacuum pot? Transmission is auto TH400 which went in after the original TH350 went bad and would only drive in reverse! Sorry it's a bit long winded but wanted to give all the information I could to help. Many Thanks Graham August 14, 2025, 01:38:51 pm by devildogmech | Views: 1985 | Comments: 2
Hey all, So, I have a 1979 C-10, Bit Ten. Trying to finish up my LS Swap and I'm at the point where I can get the exhaust finished up. The truck, of course, was originally a SBC 350, and the exhaust was in just a different place. My Exhaust runs just over or just under the parking brake cables and rods. I don't think 1/8" clearance is enough..... Have any of you relocated your Parking Brake gear to clear exhaust? Thanks in advance, Will in Chicago. I went to start my '83 K2500 yesterday afternoon and when I turned the key to the Start position, I heard and felt a "pop" and then the starter didn't engage. Now, the key "clocking" is off and the it won't return all the way to Lock and it won't engage the starter either. The steering wheel is free though and not locked. I had noticed the key cylinder was getting a little stiffer when turning it in the Start position for a little while now, but I was a little slow on addressing it...now I have no choice. Does this sound like the rack and sector gear on the rod have broken or maybe the ignition switch on top of the column? This is a non-tilt column, without cruise control on an '83 with a manual transmission. Thanks. August 05, 2025, 02:26:16 pm by Yellowcat | Views: 3384 | Comments: 26
