8.1L 6 speed.  This is a beast and with 149K miles it should outlast me.

Nice, what year?

Does 8.1 convert to somewhere near 485-500 cid?

First time I have heard of that displacement  ???

I think the 8.1L is a 496 CU IN.  It is a 2001.  It outperforms the Duramax of its day.

I always liked that body style with the rounded front end and headlights. Never understood why GM abandoned it so fast. Nice truck.

Surely more aerodynamic than our beloved 'wind plows'... ::)

The rear bumper on my step side actually scoops and gathers wind from each side to cavitate and beat up my tailgate.

Nice.
I thought you had a similar truck as a tow rig?

I did it was a 2001 as well but a 6.0L 5 speed.  I sold it awhile ago mainly because it didn't have AC and used trucks went up so high

Chevy IMO got less desirable in 2003 but GMC kept the same through 2006, the run of that body style

zieg, Nice truck!  I got one of those too! - mine is an 05'Sierra with a 8.1L 6 speed auto.  Its been a good soldier for about 7 years, is at about 115K now.  The only thing I would change from factory is the gears from 3.73 to 4.11.  My daughter drives it to school occasionally and all the boys drool over it.  I stalked craigslist for two years looking for it and I plan on keeping it forever.

I kind of wished mine had 3.73's.  I actually quit looking and just was going to quickly put my 86 together.  I had sold my daily a week prior for the same price.  Still haven't had it out much.  I have to replace the fuel lines before the exhaust shop would do any work to it.  The jury is still out but the few miles I have on it I believe it will be fine for this winter.

I had a 2001 2500HD standard cab with an 8.1l and a 6-speed also. I loved the engine. It could pull all day long and you wouldn't notice the load. I did not like the 6-speed when backup a load up an incline.

Get used to 8mpg highway, city and sitting in your driveway. I did go from the 8.1l to a 6.0l back in 2013. I was amazed at the difference in torque. I expected much closer performance. The 8.1l is simply a gas guzzling torque monster.

I like that one!  That would be a candidate to replace my C20 if something happened to it.
