I have the warn hubs. If I drove around the block without the hub there, will that be ok? The only thing holding the hub in is two snap rings. Im wondering if the hub is what is popping some how.

I would wrap plastic wrap around the open hole to avoid getting dirt in it. I think it will be fine without the cover though.

i had a hub break and it would lock up and then it was like a chunk of metal would lodge up somewhere and lock the hub then it would pop and dislodge itself. found out it was broke when i went to use my 4x4 and dint have nothing up front.

Found the problem...sheared upper hanger bolt. thanks for everyone's help.

Im glad I sprayed black paint in areas I thought could be the problem. The eye of the spring was rubbing against the frame when I would turn.

Is the bolt special, or will grade 8 at the hardware store work?

Well back to square one again. Took the bolt out and it was good. Re-torqued everything again, swapped a hub, and its still there.
