Title: My '75 C10 pro street
Post by: CoggedBelt75 on April 11, 2009, 08:22:54 pm
Here are a few specs.... The engine is a 383 with Eagle 4340 forged crank, Crower 5.7 stroker sportsman rods, Arias blower pistons, Isky hyd cam, World Sportsman II heads, Weiand 671, BDS 8 nozzle electronic bug catcher controlled by FAST ecu, manual/reverse turbo 400, 3500 stall with trans brake, narrowed 12 bolt, 4:56,spooled, 4 link, moser axles,Wilwood disc brake kit, P255/16OR15 on convo pro 15x8 front/Hoosier Radials 31x18 on convo pro 15x14 rear and a whole lot of fun. It's not a racer, just something to get me from point A to point B and everywhere in between.

Thanks guys. Alot of TLC keeping her clean. I have to mop her every day since my work parking lot is white gravel and have 3" exhaust turned down before the axle. Have had her going on 8 years now and every day is kinda like a show, no matter where I go, someone is always inspecting her. So cleaning is a must. Here are a few more pics.....

Not any time in the near future. The present combo is only a year old and not ready to tear things up just yet. The wife and I are enjoying it too much for now.

No track time as of yet. Like I have said, the engine is still fresh so we want to enjoy it for a while. At this stage of our life we are content just stylin' and profilin' ;D. Low-okie, I'll be there. Do you happen to have a fat tired black truck that I spotted out one day?

Title: Re: My '75 C10 pro street
Post by: CoggedBelt75 on April 13, 2009, 10:16:38 pm
Yes, there is a factory radiator in there. As for the hood, the wife has been on me to put it on but not ready to wrap the eye candy yet. I do have the stock hood. Can't decide whether to cut it or get a 4" cowl and modify it so the hat can get plenty of air. Ant suggestions welcome.

I have always wanted a bird catcher sticking out of the hood. Not sure how that;ll work in a rain storm tho. If you get the cowl hood, just make sure its hinged. That way you wont get so tired opening it everytime someone wants to see the bad boy. ;D

Thanks for the no hood vote. The more I get, the better for my argument. As for the top hat and rain, not a problem. Found a good deal on ebay, 200 bucks for a filter like the mud pullers use. Doesn't sound good but $100 less than BDS. It has a slip on bonnet that is water repellent. Got to test it one day when I did get caught in a rain storm. Pulled it off at the house and the filter was still dry. No pics of it on the filter, but I guess you could picture it around the element.

1983stepside, hope you can follow thru with your plans. My dream at 18 was to have a blower. Marriage and 2 kids kinda put every thing on hold. Now that they are grown and gone, I finally have it, but  we are getting to old now to really enjoy it the way we should be.

i vote for no hood.  if you do go with a hood, i would do a lift-off. that is what i am going to use.
Title: Re: My '75 C10 pro street
Post by: CoggedBelt75 on April 17, 2009, 01:36:17 pm
Appreciate those votes....a little more ammo for my case. But if she wins out and I do put one on, it will be steel. Probably the stock one cut to fit around the hat. Been there, done that with the lift off. Too much of a hassle pulling it on and off. Especially on a windy day. Don't want the worry of where it's going to blow to or what it's going to hit.

Sorry it took so long to respond. My computer crashed a couple weeks ago and my hard drive was totally wiped out, so every once in awhile I get on the wife's to keep up to date with the goings on here. Anyway....
just wanted to say i love this truck, im from altus and have seen it around, one of the reasons i have my current truck

Thanks krazy, if you get the chance, wave me over and introduce yourself. Better yet, how about posting some pics of your ride and I'll pull you over.

drag80, I don't have any numbers, dyno or track. Not sure if I want to do the dyno thing again anyway. Did this with the previous engine :(. Even tho it was just a 377, I thought it pushed the truck pretty good and in my mind thought the numbers were really up there. Got her strapped down on a Mustang chassis dyno and had some fine tuning done. All the info was progammed in so the numbers would be as close to real world as possible... weight of the truck with me in her, convertor stall, gearing and tire height. 1 hour later, after many timing and jetting adjustments, out come the results. 325hp and 358tq :'(. Always heard if you want to be knocked down to reality, just get on a dyno for the first time. What an understatement!! No where near what I THOUGHT it would be. But, now that I look at them, they really aren't that bad, just not in a heavy truck. Which led to where I'm at now. Yeah, someday I'll probably do it again and maybe make a pass or two down the track, but for now I think I will stay with the numbers my mind THINKS they could be and the way my butt grabs the seat when she goes into boost. ;)

I have a severe power addiction. Anything less than 500 Hp just doesnt impress me, but the looks of yours alone just amazes me. I dont care if it has 200 Hp, it is awesome! 8)

Post by: CoggedBelt75 on November 15, 2009, 09:50:12 am
Thanks choptop for the kind words. Just reinforces my decision to go with the roots blower instead of the blow-thru centrifugal supercharger. Yeah, for the money I spent on my setup I could have gotten a blow-thru system that would be very capable of putting out some wicked numbers and still had some change left over. Through the years my needs and wants have changed somewhat, so I would just as soon have something old school with gobs of lowend torque and visual impact.

On that note, as soon as the rain goes away, I need to take some new pictures so I can post the new look she is sporting now.
More to come.....................

Well, after many months of going without a hood, I finally gave in to the pressure to do so, mainly from the wife. I didn't want to totally cover everything with a cowl hood, so about a month ago I had a local fabricator cut an opening and weld a lip around the inside. The hat didn't come up out of the hole enough to suit me, so I ordered a 2" spacer to go under the injector plate and hat. Sent it in to get painted and while she was there, I had him touch up the dings and nicks. Also changed the red butterflies to black. Not sure if I like them yet. Got her back Friday and finally got a few pics on Sunday after I got everything cleaned back up. Here are a few....

Beautiful job on that hood opening. That truck is flat out awesome! I got the same rims, but not that kinda rubber though  lol

What's it like driving a motor like that? I'm always curious about how blown motors and high-hp motors are to drive. Can you punch it from an idle and it rip through the gears or is it soft down low but tears up the mid-range, or all bottom end and kinda shuts off up high? That kinda thing.
Title: Re: My '75 C10 pro street

Thanks alot guys!! Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing I'm achieving my goal. Not to have the fastest ride but one that has a high visual impact on the street.

Good choice with the hood. I think you should put some mirrors on it though. Very nice truck!
I'm open for suggestions.

It's an experience!!! From idle in any gear , the trans is a manual/reverse pattern btw, the street tires will turn as long as I want  to hold the throttle open. With the slicks, thats a different story. I don't go to the track and I DO NOT street race. But with our many back roads, using the trans brake or at an idle, she launches hard, the gears come quick, and pulls all the way until I let off at 6000 rpm. That's as far as I will take her. And she is still pulling 10 lbs of boost.  I guess to answer your guestion, there is really gobs of low end torque, which is a blast, but the power stays up there as well.

That made me smile :)  That would be incredible to have that kind of power in a truck like this. I hope one day to have the kind of power that just makes me giggle uncontrollably. Friend of mine has a mostly stock Viper that has run 12.3 so far and the power of that car is nothing but addicting. Bottom to top it just pulls and pulls but with ferocity. I can imagine your truck is very similar if not even more so!

Yes, there are a few stretches left that are decent enough, but the heavy truck traffic is taking its toll on them. Still a good place to test and tune tho. Even the blue fat tired camaro has been out there lately. Since you apparently go by the district , pull into the yard some evening around quitting time and introduce yourself and we'll take a little spin ;). If not, at least post up your truck so I will know who you are. Think I'm familiar with most of the trucks in town and the faces that go with them.

that truck is really nice, ive seen it up close at the car show during the air show on altus afb.

Wow, that was a long time ago, Sept. 2002. I only had her a year and my son-in-law talked me into going to help the car count since that was their first attempt at a car show. Got a big trophy for people's choice runner-up for doing so ;D. And she has made a major appearance change since then also.

I had someone follow me home a while back in a primered truck and we talked for a bit. Would that might've been you? Anyway, now I know which of the several primered trucks around to look for if we cross paths. The ride offer still stands. We can burn a few gallons and "air" her out some ;D.

seems to be some sweet pickups in Altus - we all need to form a  Okie 73-87 club and cruise 66 or somethin one nice weekend...I am alone here in my part of the world...not too many 73-87's up here that don't have rusty beds with a hay spike juttin out the back...

That is exactly the look I want for my choptop. Not sure how Im gonna get it through the hood, the intake is port matched on the 427 and would take alot of machine work to get a tunnel ram to fit. I'll figure something out. That looks awesome.

Thanks Terminator, it's a a 1955 GM color called Gypsy Red.

Yeah, there are alot of trucks and cars around here that are really nice. One of these days, I'll have to take photos of everything  that runs around here and post them up. Cruise-ins are nice. Maybe we can attend some in your neck of the woods this spring. We like to cruise Meridian during the Street Rod Nationals weekend, but seems like the last couple of years, they haven't been very cruiser friendly.

Since there is plenty of room under these hoods, it does take alot to get anything above the hood. Even with the blower and top hat, I had to add a 2" spacer to raise everything thru the opening enough to look right. Since the options are pretty slim, a tunnel ram would look nice tho. They even make the bug catcher to fit them also ;), it's a shame they are so ridiculously expensive. There is a fat tired stepside to the south of us that that has a sbc with a twin carbed tunnel with 2 velocity stacks sticking thru the hood that looks really tough. Hope you figure out a way to achieve the look you're after. Where there's a will, there's a way!

Very Nice CB75. The hood turned out good too. Sometimes, you gotta give the ladies their way too. Nice she evens lets you spend some money to have such a vehicle. Looks about magazine cover ready to me. BTW, I am in Moore. You ever get the notion to run it at ThunderVallery in Noble, be sure to get in touch and let me know. I'd sure be interested in seeing it run. You don't have to worry about me stealing it. It don't have AC.  ;D hahaha, yeah right !!! I was just posting on another thread, I am not much of a fan of lowered trucks. That one I can handle lowered. There is a good purpose to be lowered and not only looks.  8)

Thanks hotrodpc. You are right about giving them their way too, so might as well give credit where credit is due. Even tho this has been a joint deal, without her I don't think this ever would have been possible. She is the financial adviser and keeps me in check. Without their understanding and backing, it's much harder to achieve your goals and have the enjoyment along the way.

As for Thundervalley, it will be awhile. For now we just like cruising around. But one day we will go to Lawton on the 1/8 mile track just for giggles. Just not ready for the track addiction yet.  And the A/C, I'm already working on it ;)

hahaha, are you really putting AC in that thing??? You don't see hotrods with AC very often. I was actually being a smartazz when I said that. Not sure how big your cam is, but if its a big one, it sure don't need anything else to help it overheat. Looks like a good ride to be cruising around in the spring and the fall. Winter and Summer I think I'd have it parked. Summer evenings probably would not be bad either.

I love AC!

I love AC, but not so sure I'd have it in a vehicle like this. I'd be driving it in the spring, fall and summer evenings where AC is not that critical. Also, less weight, less overheating, less parts in my way to do the maintainence etc. Its a Street/Strip cruiser, not an Escalade. LMAO!!! JMO though. I know with OK humidity, I will not be without AC in my daily driver. Even on summer nights when its 80 I still use my AC cuz of the humidity. Could always do the redneck method, A 5000 BTU ac window unit through the back slider glass, and bolt down a small generator in the bed. That way he can take it out when not in use. Git'r Done !!!

A/C in a hot rod to me is classy. Plus babes don't like humidity

Guess the wife and I are just getting to old and soft, but it is too darn hot to go out sometimes, even in the evenings. There are plenty of hot rodders around here that use A/C, and I hope to be one of them soon :). Other than an interior redo, that's all that is left to do. I'm seeing a Vintage Air install in the not too distant future. Not concerned with any kind of weight savings since this is 100% street driven. I haven't had any over heating issues since I stalled the new engine and blower, even with the stock radiator. So creature comforts are a must. Even just the drive home from work is stifling at times in the cab. Right now, winter is really the best time to drive her. The heater is real toasty and the blower likes the cool air. Not much of a fall here in our corner of the state, seems to go from summer straight to winter. So, for now, I'm patiently waiting to hear "order it" ;D

Cool !!! Pun Intended !!! You're right about your corner of the state. From Summer to Winter. Sometimes watching the weahter in the summer, I say, I am sure glad I don't live there. In the winter, I say the say the same about the pan handle and Guymon, the Northwest corner. So you gonna try to go factory air installation, or aftermarket under the dash unit?

Plans are for the Vintage Air system at the moment. Neat and clean install. Even will be able to use the factory dash outlets. I do still have the factory air I pulled out tho. Still kind'a kick myself in the butt at times for doing this, but the "suitcase box" just didn't look right to me sitting in the compartment. So that option is totally out of the picture. All of this is still a want for now but in time will certainly become a need :).

Its certainly a nice truck. I hope to have a hotrod truck soon too. To many projects though at the moment. I like all the bells and whisltes, but for a street/strip truck, I can do without the bells and whistles, especially power steering and power brakes. I'd prefer to have AC over those 2. If I am going to go thru the trouble of having a quick ride, I want to be able to put as much hp to the ground as possible and not give it up. However, mine is not gonna be blown, and I will have AC on it. It can easlity be shut off to run a race. Currently, I am just trying to get my 84 C20 Silverado in decent shape. Its good. Its runs, all the power locks, windows, cruise and all that work. The AC is there, and will be working before next summer. I just bought the truck several months ago with a 454 that has about 30,000 miles on it, but the Turbo 400 with 173,000 miles on it, decided to die, so that is why I got the truck so cheap. Trans was bad, it looked ugly, although no rust, but they had to get rid of quick being that it was on the military base. Pull A Part was gonna give them $100 and could get in a few days. I told them I'll give you a $100 now and take it now. SOLD !!! Lovely truck for $100 and a great running 454 even though its a sled with Peanut Port heads. Then project #2 is gonna be to get the 85 K-10 Silverado 4x4 running. I bought that one for $150 with no motor, trans or transfer case. Otherwise complete. Oh and front driveline missing. Has a bit of rust in the cab corners, but thats OK for this truck. I am no looking to make it pretty, I am putting it together to tear up some dirt. Then I can get to the Street Strip truck out of an 81 C10 Silverado with all the bells and whistles, but no power steering or brakes. And if I do, decide to keep the power steering and brakes, I am taking the hydro boost brake booster off the 85 K10 that was orignally diesal. Big CAm = no vac boost power brakes.
