OK so today I replaced all the cables on my 79 K10 SB. Well, put them in. The previous owner hacked them all out for some reason, I think because of the exhaust. It touches the brake cables when taught. The only thing I couldnt figure out, even with looking through my parts catalog where I got the stuff from, is how the equalizer cable attaches to the passenger side under the door. I took a picture of it. The bracket shown is C shaped, riveted to the frame with that hole in it. Im wondering what is missing. The catalog doesnt have a part listed for my truck. Thanks(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c196/beastie_3/IMG00018.jpg)

I also replaced my rear brakes today. I couldnt figure out where these metal clips went, as there werent any to begin with and my factory manual didnt show them either. Any ideas?

There is a metal rod that fits into that bracket in the pic and then it extends out a few inches to hold the cable. Tough to explain without a picture but you are missing a piece. Hopefully someone can post a pic for you.
I converted my 81 to the newer style cables that both run up the drivers side.

Those metal clips get pressed into the holes in back of the backing plates that you use to andjust the starwheel adjuster.

this might help

Irish, that is the catalog I have. For a 2wd, it says to use #9. #8 is for 81+. Will it still work even though its not listed for 4wd??
Can anyone post a pic of that piece on their 73-80?

OK, cool. I dont have holes for my starwheel adjusters on the backing plate. The holes are on the drums. Ill see if they fit on them.

it will be the same 4x4 and 4x2 frames are pretty much the same thing
-
OK Ill add it to my list of parts to order.

I'm pretty sure they get mounted on the shoe, not the backing plate.
As far as your brake cable "hooks". I've got one on the passenger side (no. 9 in the illustration) Mounting end, I have hooked into a hole in the transfer case mount on the frame rail.
The pic doesn't show it real well, but the rust colored rod is for my e-brake.

When it stops raining, Ill see what I can figure out. I may take a trip to the junk yard and see how others are set up as well.
-
I can get some pics when the snow clears, Just noticed one of my parts trucks has this set up on it. I know it didn't hook to the t-case mount from the factory.

Fitz, that would be awesome if you had some pics. Take your time, Im not in a hurry.

Is that the only hook you have on the passenger side? Im just asking because the catalog shows two on the passenger side under the floorboard. Wouldnt happen to have a better pic, would you?

If irish is right it hooks up to the upper part of the frame under the door, thats where i had mine when i was doing my tranny crossmember. Check out the pic i just took, this is as close as i can get without breaking out the jack hope this helps (sorry, the pic is sideways and blurry)

Hey beastie what color is your interior
-
beastie- mine is a very incomplete setup. The only hook I have is the one I have on the transfercase mount. Even the 2 guides in the illustration are missing on mine, but the cables are good and it works. (actually it was on my list of things to do this past summer :-\)

Thanks guys, Ill try to go to the pick n pull and see if i can grab something off another truck first.
Slow n low, all the metal (dash, floorboards, doors, etc) is the same as the outside, seafoam green. the dash pad, door panels, seat is blue. I eventually want to convert it all to gray and paint the truck a dark gray.
-
ok, reason why i asked is i got all black interior in my truck and took out all the blue and looking to give to some one who can use it and since your the closest to me , why not
-
Well I wont be switching over for awhile, if I do at all. I would do it when I get my truck ready to paint, but that wont be for at least a year or two. Cali and the economy suck. What are you looking to get rid of/sell? I think there is another guy on here from SJ and I think we all need to get together and talk trucks, throw back beer, wrench etc. Either way, hit me up and I can swing by some time.

Was at the junk yard today and picked up a parking brake cable bracket that will work! Its #8 in the picture Irish posted. Now I have to cut off the stupid ladder bar brackets that the dumb PO welded on and reroute my exhaust because when the parking brake is set, the passenger line lays on the exhaust and I dont feel like buying more cables each time it melts. But that has been my plan anyways, I have straight tube, 2 mufflers and just got my hands on a welder. Gunna pick up 2 S bends and Ill be all set. Thanks for the help!
