My father has a 87 silverado with a 305 TBI . No mods or add ons. He recently had the transmission rebuilt, and a couple of days after we picked it up it died and would not start. We changed the ignition coil and the pick-up in the dist. It started up just fine. But now whenever you put it in gear it dies. Driving down the road runs fine but when stopping unless you shift to neutral or give it gas as you stop it will die. I have to keep it idled up for it to stay running. We have replaced, EGR valve, IAC, all vacume lines from engine, pcv valve, cleaned TB, fuel filter, wires and plugs are not that old, cap and rotor are pretty new too. After it stalls it will start right back up no problem. My father and i are stumped. Any one have an answer or at least ideas?????
-
how does it idle?
-
im thinking maybe due to the transmission job someone bumped a wire to a sensor not familiar with the 87s tbis so I don’t know what does what but have found that some oil pressure sensors will kill the engine it the oil pressure is to low its under the distributor right there were someone tighten the transmission could of hit it
-
Is that a TCC transmission? If the TCC is stayin locked up, it will kill/ stall the engine at idle...
-
x2 on Fred's reply. Sounds very much like transmission is not disengaging completely when you come to a stop and the trans stall converter is stalling truck out. See if tranny is adjusted properly.

Looks like some of this thread dissapeared??? Smokeycbr, I saw and answered your last post, I don't see it anymore???
Disreguard, I cornfused this thread with another. :-\

I voted stalls when stopping! Hope I win... :P
-
I don't get the poll question ??? ??? ???. Over my head.
-
Vile were at 3:1 with that pole I think we have a chance. Lol I was thinking what’s the pole for when he first posted it but now I understand it’s like voodoo or something right?

When you're in gear, you may or may not be stopped. When you're stopped, you may or may not be in gear...
I pick C, all of the above.
-
OK I was going to offer advice, but now I see its been a month and he hasnt replied to anyone else...so....I still pick C.
-
when your stalled you may or may not be moving
-
You forgot in or out of gear...
-
I demand a recount!!

when it stalls, it may have been running before. If it doesn't stall, it may not have been running first. If it runs, then stalls, it may not be running after. If it runs after it wasn't running, then, well it is possessed--you hope it stalls. If it stalls before it stalls, well, I hope it was running first or it woudn't be cosidered a stall, then another stall. In either case, I pick "D"--it is Christine.

its been a month
I think he is stalling
Couldn't help it. +1 for the TCC lockup.

As for the poll question, you gentlemen are much too kind in breaking that down for me...
I see some of you have identified your transmissions. I can't get any more specific than MV4 as the pan has been replaced. Any way to ID it on the inside or elsewhere??? I found the VIN stamp.

Well of course it was running, otherwise it wouldnt stall! BUT, does option A refer to being in gear while stopped, or while moving? Option B clearly states stopping, as in the process of doing so.
I petition to add option E, he needs to come back and clear these confusions up!
(Christine is Hollywood fiction! Its like watching law and order and then taking the BAR exam)

like watching law and order and then taking the BAR exam
I tried it and ended up like JFK jr, except I didn't try it 18 times to pass.
For my police academy, I watched the movie Police Academy followed by all seasons of The Andy Griffith Show. One can learn a lot from Mayberry. I passed. Of course that was 19 yrs ago.

Thanks for that bit of info, i didn't know---Where's the humor in this world? Sorry, but to keep me sane in these troubling times, it's either become an alcoholic or find humor where ever possible.

Or both just to be on the safe side ;)
By the way, the score is almost tied.

there I tied it up. Still looking for option "D" though.

I watched Police Women of Broward County and The Academy (LASD) to apply for a lateral position....
