Need Help Stalling Problem!!!!!!
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:15:16 am »
My father has a 87 silverado with a 305 TBI . No mods or add ons. He recently had the transmission rebuilt, and a couple of days after we picked it up it died and would not start. We changed the ignition coil and the pick-up in the dist. It started up just fine. But now whenever you put it in gear it dies. Driving down the road runs fine but when stopping unless you shift to neutral or give it gas as you stop it will die. I have to keep it idled up for it to stay running. We have replaced, EGR valve, IAC, all vacume lines from engine, pcv valve, cleaned TB, fuel filter, wires and plugs are not that old, cap and rotor are pretty new too. After it stalls it will start right back up no problem. My father and i are stumped. Any one have an answer or at least ideas?????

im thinking maybe due to the transmission job someone bumped a wire to a sensor not familiar with the 87s tbis so I don’t know what does what but have found that some oil pressure sensors will kill the engine it the oil pressure is to low its under the distributor right there were someone tighten the transmission could of hit it

Is that a TCC transmission? If the TCC is stayin locked up, it will kill/ stall the engine at idle...

x2 on Fred's reply.  Sounds very much like transmission is not disengaging completely when you come to a stop and the trans stall converter is stalling truck out.  See if tranny is adjusted properly.

When you're in gear, you may or may not be stopped. When you're stopped, you may or may not be in gear...

I pick C, all of the above.

when it stalls, it may have been running before.  If it doesn't stall, it may not have been running first.  If it runs, then stalls, it may not be running after.  If it runs after it wasn't running, then, well it is possessed--you hope it stalls. If it stalls before it stalls, well, I hope it was running first or it woudn't be cosidered a stall, then another stall. In either case, I pick "D"--it is Christine.
