Title: Steering troubles
Post by: chadbice on January 20, 2011, 02:11:40 am
I have an 84 silver 4wd with 35's on it.  My questiion is, is there a way to increase the performance of the power steering to keep the belt from slipping. I know the 35's don't help but there must be a way to increase the output without having to add hyd. assist.

How high is your truck? I assume 4 or 6 inches?

My power steering pump uses 2 belts

If you want to mod the pump, check this out

(Instead of clamping the piston in a vise, I would use a lathe to not damage it and ensure the hole is drillled in the center.)

Start by tightening up the belt.

Start by tightening up the belt.

Also you might need to change the belt, if it has been slipping you should change..
