I'd shoot myself if I did that- not functional at all.
-

Curiosity got the better of me and i looked to see what i could find on the web. http://blogs.truckinweb.com/6222972/editorials/2008-1-revolver-brandan-gillogly-column/index.html
Scroll down a bit and there is a 72 on 20"s that set up simuler to your truck shrek.

If you're gonna do the street truck thing, suggest leaving the 4x4 be and getting a 2wd as a starting platform. Just my $0.02.

I think it would be a more practical rig than some of these truck with carbed bigblocks 3 speeds and massive mudders. Besides, 99% of the time the truck is on road so why not design it around that fact.

To what are you responding? I'm confused. Not one person answered this guys question and while I don't think big wheels and little tires looks good on any rig 2 or 4wd as it seems most others don't care for is anyone going to attempt to answer his question?

Boy the "style" that they think looks good over on the west coast just blows my redneck-from-KY mind. I can't wrap my mind around thinking it looks good for the bottom of the body to sit level with the top of the tires and have zero tire tucked up into the fenderwell. I don't mean to be rude but IMO they couldn't have made those trucks look any worse. Wow. Truly the "ricers" of the diesel world on display right there.
Sorry for the OT rant there. It is my opinion, the nothing larger than 20" looks good on 99% of 4wd trucks, regardless of vintage. The only trouble I see in larger wheels for the older trucks is that the styling/design of the wheels don't always seem to fit well with the lines and look of the older vehicles. However, there are plenty that do look fantastic though.
Lets see a side pic of your truck and maybe someone on here can photo shop you some 20s on it?

Here's some 18s with 35" rubber on a 66 if that helps...

I know INSIDE summit racing there is a computer that allows you to pull up a vehicle adjust the height and wheel and tire size right in front of you, its not perfect, but it does give you a good idea how it will look.

Beautiful truck, I love that color.
-
Only thing i don't get is the whole stretching the tire bit. that used to be a lowrider only thing. The rim should not be wider then the tire. Just my opinion.

my truck

If you guys don't judge me too harshly I'll dig up some pics of the '85 I put together 6-7 years ago...
-
found a couple pics. This was my first project vehicle, learned a lot from it... a lot of what not to do. I think it would have looked better with a small lift and 33's.

big rims aint my style but that looks a lot better than those lifted

Big wheels and thin sidewalls must make the steering more precise. How about the ride? My 1990 3/4 ton Suburban with big rubbers already rides pretty stiff the way it is and I can't imagine how hard it would ride without the cushion from the tires was taken away.

17's are as big as I care to go with 4x4's. Anything bigger just doesn't look right to me.

i dont see how that has come into play here for one read what vile was quoting

to me he was saying that a lifted truck with big rims and small sidewalls would be more practical than mudders since it wouldnt see the pits. and everyone else tried to help with older trucks newer truck but no one had any of our truck so. I guess weren’t supposed to respond to a question now ::)
-
personally mine still has the factory 15" with 31's and i may lift some to fit 33's

my truck rides like a log wagon

Here's some 18's on 33's. if I wanted a 20" wheel the minimum tire I'd go with would be a 35"
The shorter sidewall makes steering more precise on the road, period. it also makes it rougher, period.
If you want to go mudding ONLY, the big rims and shorter sidewall tires will be fine, won't make much of a difference. if you want to rock crawl, the smaller rims and taller sidewalls will be better. If the tread is skinnier than the rims, be ready to buy replacement wheels, and lots of them.

Chevyrado what color is your truck? I was just saying about painting my truck that color
