My 87 R10 has been plagued with frame cracks propagating from the rear shock mount holes and steering gear mount (classic tearout of the frame rail). All are in-process of repair. Does anyone know if cracking issues commonly invade the rails inboard of the upper A-frame mounts, below the engine mounts? I am considering adding the factory inboard frame reinforcements from a 3/4-ton. Pros/cons/other thoughts/suggestions?

Reinforcement is always a good idea IMO. Maybe it is just me but when GM went to the 1981 and lightened everything up I am seeing more frame cracking than the 73-79 era.

The frames are definitely under-engineered; designed to be disposable.

Unfortunately the newer vehicles are all this way, and they newer they get the more disposable they become.

Well... As disappointing as it is, I guess it gives guys like us something to do....
Do you think I'll gain anything by adding the 3/4-ton reinforcement inside the rail?

Reinforcement of any kind should help.

This,
but the nice thing about these frames is they twisted and turned and got somewhat back to normal. The newer designs...once you exceed suspension travel, be prepared. I would just beef up where you need to

Thanks for your input, Boys!
