Where can I find the ID# for my motor ? It suppose to be a 350 but I'm starting to wonder. It was swapped out of a 85 k5 Blazer.
-
On the block right behind the alternator is a pad that has the numbers stamped on it. It will look similar to what is pictured. From there we can determine what it is but if it is out of a 85 K5 it is more likely a 305.
-
Thanks I'll check it out tomorrow, the game came on.
-
I looked for it but didn't see any #s, My VIN# CCL44AZ115033
-
Its there. Clean the surface really good. You can also look at the back of the block, driver side of the distributor. Same deal, clean the surface really good. Its harder to get to.
-
The VIN is only going to tell you what year and engine came with the truck currently.
If there is nothing on the machined pad, it may have been decked or is really dirty. You can also get the number off the back of the block where it meets the bellhousing, but it is hard to see on these trucks.
-
So I will need to remove the alternator to see it ? And from the Vin# it's a
( C ) Chevrolet ( C ) 2wd ( 4 ) cab and pick up box ( 4 ) 1/2 ton HD Susp ( A ) 1980 ( Z ) GMAD Freemont,Ca and last 6 # or the Serial #s. Did I get that right ?
-
C - Chevrolet
C - conventional Cab
L - 350-4bbl V8
4 - HD suspension
4 - Pickup
A - 1980
Z - Freemont assembly plant.
Build sequence # - 115033
-
Thanks Cap ! I'll remove the alternator and get engine numbers.
-
Shouldnt need to remove alt, but it will be easier.
-
Use a flash light and mirror, you will have to clean the area very well and use a wire brush to get the dirt and such out of the scribed numbers in the block. (so you can actually see and read them)

http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php So far I found v=plant=flint: 05=year: 21=day: ufc=suffice engine code:

http://www.chevymania.com/ This is the website that I use most. Click on "parts ID" at the top then scroll down the list on the left side of page to "suffix codes". There is a pull down there so you scroll down the list to "UFC". Sorry it says that it's either a 305 or 350. Maybe getting the #'s off of the back of the block will narrow it down. The block casting #'s are on the driver's side rear of engine just behind the cyl head. You might need a little mirror to see back there. Good luck man.

Thanks Bigbird ! I'll look for it this morning after Church. The motor was taken out of a 86 K5 Blazer, so I'm thinking 305 maybe ? And that could be my whole problem I'm looking for parts for the wrong engine. This is just a temp, I'm going to do a rebuild on the 350 that was taken out. When the Election is over and I start back working full time. LOL !

No problem glad I could help. The dimensions of a 305 should be the same as a 350. Most parts should interchange with either engine. What parts are you having trouble with? Yeah I hear you about the jobs market. Let's pray that it gets better soon no matter who wins the election.
