ID# for my motor
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:18:52 am »

Where can I find the ID# for my motor ? It suppose to be a 350 but I'm starting to wonder. It was swapped out of a 85 k5 Blazer.

On the block right behind the alternator is a pad that has the numbers stamped on it.  It will look similar to what is pictured.  From there we can determine what it is but if it is out of a 85 K5 it is more likely a 305.

Its there. Clean the surface really good. You can also look at the back of the block, driver side of the distributor. Same deal, clean the surface really good. Its harder to get to.

The VIN is only going to tell you what year and engine came with the truck currently.
If there is nothing on the machined pad, it may have been decked or is really dirty.  You can also get the number off the back of the block where it meets the bellhousing, but it is hard to see on these trucks.

Use a flash light and mirror, you will have to clean the area very well and use a wire brush to get the dirt and such out of the scribed numbers in the block. (so you can actually see and read them)

 Engine #s V0521UFC/ CGF185220

http://www.chevymania.com/   This is the website that I use most. Click on "parts ID" at the top then scroll down the list on the left side of page to "suffix codes". There is a pull down there so you scroll down the list to "UFC". Sorry it says that it's either a 305 or 350. Maybe getting the #'s off of the back of the block will narrow it down. The block casting #'s are on the driver's side rear of engine just behind the cyl head. You might need a little mirror to see back there. Good luck man.
