Title: throw out bearing.

on my 78 GMC c25 350/sm454 how bad is it if the bearing is making noise all the time? I know I should change it but I have no money right now. and I rather replace the clutch (which works fine) and bearing at the same time. so hm do I let her sit or can I drive her?

I would say anytime a bearing is making noise all the time, its reached its critical mass. You may also be damaging your front bearing retainer on the transmission, pressure plate and clutch fork.
It is spinning around at a lot of rpms and if it let loose could cause even more damage.

My 1980 chevy truck has a granny gear 4 spd in it,I know the clutch needs replaced,but the throw out bearing was making noise so I removed the rubber around the clutch fork and sprayed some lithium grease on the bearing and readjusted the clutch and the noise is gone for now.Not a permanent fix,just to quiet thing down for now.

Unless you want to have your transmisson rebuilt, or at least the input shaft replaced, you'll want to get that fixed sharpish. The part is only maybe twenty bucks, and with an extra set of hands can be replaced in a few hours

    I have seen throw out bearing come apart and not only ruin the clutch but blow holes in the transmission bell housing.

     This would be my suggestion, they are very cheap and if the clutch is still good you can run it for years with a new through out bearing.

*sigh* thanks, guess it's back to the honda rebel until I get some cash.  and I did sooo enjoy driving her for the day and a half.
