Title: newb with rust
Post by: Joegibbstruck on April 21, 2017, 09:51:50 am
So I'm new here, and bought this 79 c10. The bottom of it is completely rust free. There are a couple pin holes around the passenger side windshield, but once I got it home I found out the inner and outer cowl are rusted through and someone down the line attempted to put a later front clip on it. So they slotted the cowl for the hinges. I have all my parts catalogs ordered but they have not arrived yet. What I have looked at online, I can't find replacement panels for the cowl area. Do I need to be in the look out for a donor cab to steal these parts from, or does someone make these panels.

I'm guessing I need a pre 81 if I want to go back to the 73-79 front clip. Found a 76 on craigslist for 800 for the entire truck, but I don't want an entire truck lol. Hoping someone has a cab laying around with no title that I can pick up for just a couple hundred bucks.

Get the entire truck, take what you need and sell the rest or do a cab swap. You can post your spare parts in the classifieds section here or craigslist and make your money back.

Be careful with this, title normally follows the cab, unless your in a special state where it needs to be numbers matching. Meaning if at any point there may be a chance you need a title, it's better to have them legal.

I agree, try to get the whole truck-and because you now know some problem areas, you could find a better cab then yours and just do a whole cab swap.

Found a cab today that has what I need not rusted out. It has a title, but I'm just gonna cut it apart and scrap the rest. Paid 200 for cab with title, core support, and hood to go back to the 79-79 front end. I am not scared of body work. I have a 66 mustang in my garage that I have replaced 1/2 the car with replacement panels.

Save your vin plate and title before you scrap it.

Got my replacement firewall yesterday, paid 230 for a spare cab, straight hood, coresupport, headlight bezels, and upper and lower grille trim. Now the task of coming up with a plan on doing the firewall swap. Think I'll cut the pillars where the factory joint is at the roof. As my passenger side has some rust on it.
