Has anyone tried these things out? they are a replacement kick panel with a round speaker built into them. 150 bucks for the set
-
you mean these?

-
no i mean the ones in the (Don't do that again) truck catalogue that are similar, but have speakers installed already.
-
Yes I have a set of them. I also have the Qlogic and the ones Chris sells. The only advantage over the ones you are eyeballing is they clear your parking brake pedal better. Check with Chris bc I know he was having them redesigned to fit better but they angle better at you for sound quality. It's a trade off. If you want this style you may have to modify the parking brake pedal but again I'm not sure since he was having them redesigned.
-
thanks for the info bud
-
We are having the non-silverado version clearanced to miss the parking brake. The Silverado version already does.
-
Capt, I am a little lost here. What is the difference in that area between the silverado and the others? I haven't compared the difference. I have one siverado, the others are bonanza's, scottsdales, or custom deluxes, but didn't know there was a difference. Also, is there a difference between the 73=80's and the 81-87's in this area. I have both, but haven't actaully looked for the difference.
-
If you look at the full kick panels there is a recessed area in which they can fit on some of them. In the earlier models they were two piece. I'm not sure why it makes a difference if it's a silverado or not because my Scottsdale had the full kicks and my Sierra Grande had the two piece kick panels. My Sierra has the one piece panels and my custom deluxe had one piece with manual vents. So i'm not really sure myself...
-
I am calling them "Silverado" because all of the trucks with that trim level had full kick panels. Yes it was an option on the others, but I have never seen a Silverado Trim level that didn't have full panels. I guess I should put a description in there.
The Non-Silverado Verion RD-3061 (http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=RD-3061&Category_Code=7387INT) fit trucks with half a kick panel that looks like this:

The Silverado version (http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=RD-3061S&Category_Code=7387INT) Fits trucks with kickpanels that look like this:

Vile, any pics of the Q-logic ones? They are an audio-based company that put a focus on the sound quality of their pre-fab kick panel products so I'm interested in what they cooked up for our trucks. I just made my own for mine, but I put a 7" B&W midbass in my stock kicks and then made a fiberglass pod for the 4/tweet that sat below where the 7 was. That was just a quick setup. I'm remaking the entire thing for my new system. Should be pretty slick when done.
-
The kicks we have made were designed to point towards the front as best you can get and still fit in the hole of every truck made without modification, miss the brake pedal and still house up to a 6.5" speaker.
-
I do but you can email me for pix
-
Here is one from their site:

I would go with Capt's kick panels. Yes the Q-logics are designed for the superior component-type speakers, but there are some very nice coaxials on the market now. Also Q-logic says the largest midbass driver you can fit is a 5.25" with their kickpanels, whereas Capt's can fit a 6.5" driver. Also, Q-logics are more expensive.
-
I'll take pics of my setups later and post pix
-
If so inclined, I could make a set that would take coaxial speakers that we could sell, but it will be after the other 3 things I am working on, which will be a while

I still have my stock radio with one dash speaker that came with my truck when I bought it off the original owner a year ago. Thats the last thing on my list of projects because it works great...I like those kick panels tho.
-
Thanks Vile and Capt. I know what to look for now.

Those almost look like they dont clear the E brake pedal.
-
They don't
-
I am still working on ours for the original version, but within a month or so they should clear the E-brake just like the "Silverado" (full panel) versions do.
Vile, is this your Q logic panels?
-
Yeah those are the Q-logic ones.
-
What are the other ones?
-
One set I got from you and the other ones are from el m see that are flat. Those clear the brake pedal and come with a speaker installed.
-
Wonder if it would be possible to get a tweeter in there, so you could have component speakers. You could cut a hole in the other area right above where that speaker is. Looks like a perfect tweeter spot.
-
Vile, the flat ones are Custom AutoSound right?
Which ones are you talking about for Component?
-
I forget who makes them to be honest. I could look at them again if you want tomorrow.
-
nah, just curious.
-
Digging up and oldie...
How do the silverado speaker inserts attach to the full stock kickpanels?
Did you say that the Q-Logic panels do not clear the e-brake?
Capt: Did you ever rework the panels to clear the e-brake?
-
I created the new ones with clearance for a non properly adjusted parking brake.
The original ones require the brake to be adjusted as to not hit. They weren't designed by me, but I have a set for my Crew Cab.
-
Are these the Silverado panels you offer? I couldn't find a pic on your site.
Do they clear the e-brake, and how do they attach?

They do clear the e-brake:

Thanks.
So any idea how one would go about attaching them?
-
You can glue them on, velcro them on, sticky tape them on, screw them on etc.
-
Up to me then. Nice.
Any idea of the max mounting depth and speaker size? 6", 6 1/2", 6 3/4"?
-
As per the catalog a standard 6.5" speaker will fit.
There are a number of people on here who have them. The come with dual-loc fasteners for attachement, but you can use any method you like.
-
Mine speakers are standard depth and I have plenty of extra room.
These might help.
