Hello everyone new guy here so be easy on me.  I have a 1978, k10, Reg. Cab, longbed that I use mainly as a farm truck.  My tranny is slipping and I want to replace it with a rebuild but I don't know how to find out which tranny I need.  I have good reason to believe my truck has been pieced together so I don't trust the VIN#.
Where, or is there a place on the Engine, Tranny, and Tcase I can look to see what exactly I have?  I was told by the person I bought it from it had a 350 but how do I know for sure. It would probably be easier just to find another truck for what it would cost to replace everything but I love the body style, and the truck and don't mind working on it.  Thanks for the help.

Thanks! Is there away to find out what Tcase I have if I don't have a tab on it?  I can't go look and see right now but I will when I get home.

Welcome to the site. As far as the transfer cage goes:
205- Cast iron.
203- Cast iron with an aluminum section for the output shaft.
208- Aluminum.
Do you have any pictures of the t-case or the shifter?

Thanks, I don't have any pictures right now of the Tcase but I think I can identify the Tranny and Tcase by the info provided. Now I need to identify what Engine it is, it'll be going out next, thanks for the help.

Any SBC engine will replace the current one regardless of size.  The only gotchas are some 305's and the 87-up one piece rear main.
