Hi and thanks
« on: May 09, 2009, 11:39:08 pm »
Howdy, I'm very new to these trucks and rebuild/restoration in general. I'm glad to have found this forum as you guys like to give advice it seams and I'll be in need of that advice.

Just bought a, '85 chevy c20 with a 350 and really enjoy driving it. Here's a few questions, thanks in advance for your help.

1) the odometer reads 58K miles. Is there a way to tell if that's really 58k or actually 158k?
2) it's missing the AC compressor so I'll need to replace that before summer (I'm in Texas). So what's the deal with freon? Old stuff is evil, new stuff is good? I keep hearing about folks upgrading their AC to use the new freon. Will I need to do that at the same time I install the new compressor, or are the two systems separate?

1) now there is no way to tell how many miles but if you look at there wear and tear on the truck it kind of gives you an ideal also the dash could of been changed out at one point or another
2) the old stuff "R" something is bad for you and the ozone plus you need a license to buy it and the new stuff "134a" is better for you but don't go breathing it and for the ozone if it escapes from the collent system, but it doesn't cool as good as the old stuff
