Steering columns

Is the column out of the 67-72 compatible with the 73-87's? Is it shorter by any chance? Anyone ever try it? I have also heard the column from a van is shorter.....anyone know.....

I believe it is shorter and it doesn't have a switch on it.
Not to mention the "hole" and mounting is different if I remember correctly.

Hmmm......

What are our options for shortening the existing ones, or shorter replacements? Being 6'3" I wouldn't mind a lil more room

Wonder what the differences are for using a telescoping column from a 70's or 80's caddy.

The guys at http://www.gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com/ might have the answer.

I modified mine and gained about an extra 2 inches. you will definatly need a welder. Plastic rivits and a rivet gun. No interferance with the gear shifter knob to dash or steering wheel to dash at all. Only wish I took my column completely apart so I could have greased the dry squeeky bearings :(
This was a tilt column BTW. I'm 6'6 and I can stretch my arm all the way out (sitting down durr) and my hand rests comfertably on the steering wheel.. looking back its one of those creature comfort things I should have done on my other silverado. Just didnt have the idea.

Good to know.....still trying to find an easier option. The guys at the link above said they can do it, but they would charge an arm and a leg.
