« on: June 18, 2009, 07:03:49 pm »
hey guys just wanted some feedback on a truck i am buying,
its an 1986 s10 with a L99/4L60E swap out of a 96 police caprice, new exhuast of course all the way back with flowmasters, and a bailey multi coil ignition, all programmable through a labtop.
what do you guys think?
have you seen or heard of any problems after this kind of swap etc?

Might have a problem keeping rear tires on it!!! ::)
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Blazin has a point there, traction is not a real strong point of a V8 S-10.

Good for some smoke shows and the overall cool factor though. I'd love to have one to play with on good days.

LOL, tires are the least of my worries! its just the internals and computer stuff that i have not done before, the guy said it burns a little bit of oil but on start up it smelled nice and clean out the tailpipe.
if i wanted to change to a bigger engine is there anything that would just bolt right up? i've been wanting an LS1 for quite some time...

If I remember correctly, the older 4L60E won't work with the LS based engines but I have been wrong before. You could go with the TBI 454 if you wanted to go bigger or a 383 for that matter.

I'm sure the TBI guys will step in on thi sone.

There is ALOT of power to be had with a LS based engine.

i do have a th400 as well, its hooked to a stock 86 350 right now in my C20...the LS would be a huge improvement in performance but that swap is far too advanced for me right now  :-\

what does the TBI 454 put out? i think i saw numbers for the carbed 454 around 250hp?

other than that i guess a L99 rebuild with a few upgraded parts would still haul and give me decent mileage...
do you guys have any suggestions?

Not a huge problem with an L99.

I would not mod an L99.  Worse than modding a 305, IMO.  Save up for an LSX swap or swap it out for a LT1/LT4.  Hate to be a downer on the engine, I do love V8 S10s.
