wont start after head gasket replacement

I got the head gasked finally put back on and i cant get the thing to fire it seems like there is no spark.  It just cranks and cranks but no fire i smell gas so i think it is getting gas.  I was wondering if you guys had any ideas before i check tomm. see if i can figure out the problem.

You didn't list the things you already checked.  I am assuming by your name, you have an '83.  I would start w/ distributor, hot wire to coil getting 12 volts w/ ignition on?....did the distributor sit back into the intake withou problems?  Ground wire positioned right on the HEI coil?

Is the distributor turning when you crank the engine? take the cap off and look. (for that matter look at oil pressure when cranking see if needle moves up--that'l tell you if distributor is turning)  Rotor look good?
