Transmission Tailhousing Plug? or, plug for end of transmission

84 C10 305/700r4:  Just pulled the engine/trans as one unit.  As a newbie, did not realize THAT much trans fluid was going to come out of the end of the transmission where the u-joint slides in.

Question:  Where can i find a Transmission Tailhousing Plug? or, plug for the end of the transmission to keep the oil inside when removing and installing the transmission?

Since I've done this more than once and parted out a few hundred vehicles over the years I've saved a slip yoke from every transmission off a drive shaft just for these occasions.  They make plugs you see on rebuilts but I don't know if they would hold in several quarts without coming flying out.  I have taken a gallon sized freezer bag and duct tape and taped the bag on the output shaft.  That works if you don't nick the bag...

Drain the trans before you pull it out.

If you use a yoke like zieg said you may want to safety wire it in. Especially if the rear seal is old or damaged. The seal is really all that holds it in when the trans is tail down. I have had them slip out before with the result of lubricating/rust proofing my shop floor.

There is at least two bags worth of kitty litter in oil in a TH350.

I just did the ol rag and duct tape job. But the yoke idea is a great idea.

You can cut the top half of a water bottle or soda can and Stab it in

If you can't find one the exact size you can cut the top off and slice down the side a couple inches to allow a little overlap and jam it in with the slice at the top
