Front clip swap 86 silverado
« on: November 24, 2009, 05:56:54 pm »
Hello,

New to the site so hope this gets out there.

I want to remove the front clip on my 86 silverado to do an engine/transmission swap and clean up the engine bay and firewall.

Anyone have info on how to do this?

yep take off the hood you can do that with a 2x4 easy, and unbolt the rad support and four bolts holding the fenders there is two one on the drivers side and one on the pass side and the top bolts it should slide right out.

The front ones are infront on the core support just above the frame rails, then there is a bolt at the top of the fender close to the cowl, there will be one in the door jamb ( you can see where it goes to the fender inside the door jamb) and then one other at the botton of the fender, under the cab. You'll have to disconnect the light harness, and hood release, as well as the a/c lines( hopefully you dont have any freon in it) and the tranny lines, as well as anything connected to the inner fenders.
Almost forgot, keep track of the shins that come out around the cab area, you will want them put back for panel alignment

Great information, thanks a lot.  Look forward to future postings.  I'll try to get some pictures of the project on for all to see.

Thanks again.
