Gear Grind in 3rd
« on: March 21, 2010, 10:23:56 pm »
I was driving home from the store yesterday morning when I heard a grinding sound coming out of my SM465. It only seems to do it when I am feathering the gas pedal. Could it need fluid or is there something else going on?

Usually a noise like you are describing is a bearing going bad internally.  As it gets worse the next trick it will do is jump out of 3rd, at least that is what happened to me on one of my previous truck.  I didn't fix it because the clutch was going anyway and when the clutch gave out I switched it to an automatic from another parts truck I had.

Thanks zieg. What sucks is that clutch is only a couple weeks old or I'd swap in my th350 this weekend. I think I'll start shopping for a new box.
