Intermittent electrical/throttle
« on: May 05, 2010, 04:29:45 am »
Hey everyone,
This is my first post here, I've got a 1987 silverado with a 305 tbi motor with 270,000 miles and still running strong, mostly ;).  I've got a technical question and I could use some troubleshooting advice from some people who have dealt with these trucks before.  The issue it a completely random intermittent throttle and electrical cut out while driving.  I'll be cruising down the road and all at once the acceleration will disengage, the service engine light will flash, and sometimes the radio and lights will switch off and then back on.  It's been doing it for a couple months now.  I've changed everything to do with spark, ignition module, distributor cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs.  Has anyone else had this happen?  Anyone know what it could be?

sounds like a bad connection causing the engine to cut off and that kicking on the check engine light and also can make you lose power to most or everything. check your battery wires then follow the pos to the starter check the wires there see if any of them are loose thats were i would check first it also could be a charging problem with the alt, my 94 would just bog right down and the volt gauge would say 12 volts so i figured the alt was bad took it off and tested it it tested good but they can like your having run good then run bad then back good but also when i took of the neg battery cable i noticed it wasn't tight didn't have to put any pressure to remove the bolt from the bat just turned with ease that also could of been my problem

Ok cool, that's what I was going to try out tomorrow, I already cleaned and corrected the connections from the fuel pumps up, thinking it was them, but that didn't work.  It makes sense to go from the source.
