thinking about trading..a ford to a chevy?
« on: May 17, 2011, 03:42:46 pm »
well i have a 89 ford f150 shortbed 2wd auto lol yes i know a ford ahh..well its got the 302 with edelbrock intake n carb..but its giving me all kinds of crap sometimes it dont want to idle at all sometimes it runs fine..and for some reason its getting hot..i dont know y but it is..well stopped at a car lot the other day to look at a truck and test drove it..it is a 82 chevy c30 dually flatbed..350 4 speed and it has hydroboost brakes..as far as rust goes mine is solid and the chevy needs a passenger front fender..each door has a lil bit of rust in the bottom corner..and there ones lil spot about quarter of a inch wide and 4 or 5 inches long on the passenger floorboard right by the door..it seemed to run out good and shift fine the clutch seemed good..so what do you all think is there anything i should look for on the chevy or is this a def trade to make?

I would trade.  It will probably be a wash in MPG since your Ford has a carb on it.  Just check the frame good for rust and stress cracks.

As much as I would say go for the chevy, I think it depends on what you plan to do with it.  If you are gunna use the GVW's go for the chevy even if not the thing could come in really handy. However if you are just putting around I would fix the ford and sell it for more if you could.  Those hydroboost brakes rock I love them in my one ton.  Also that sm 465 is bulletproof so for a really dependable truck that is likely a nicer one for work and reliability go for the chevy.  However if your truck has all kinds of nice things like air power windows tilt column... I might have to say keep it it's really what your looking for in a truck.

Shoulda never sold:

I had a 79 ford f150 4x4 sold it had problems but was a recent a frame off restoration. The thing was it was a ford and things were breaking left and right.. I sold made a profit got a 80 chevy k10.. I love Chevy that's me.. What kind work you trying to do, also never rush into things the best trades sometimes I learned are the best never made.. It does not have to be this Chevy it could be another.. Seem like u want it man get it.

Is this a dd? To me a flat beds weight distribution would be a pain in the rain/snow or other than norm weather condition

A chevy powered Ford would be cool.

My dad saw an old restored, candy apple green 50's ford pickup up north in Globe, AZ. On the back window was a sticker that said "Built Ford Tough, With Chevy Stuff". My dad waited for him in the stote parking lot and asked him what was up with the sticker. The truck had a 383 stroker, th400 tranny.

Probably the most impressive thing to me at a car show is an old classic ford that actually has a FORD engine in it...lol

If I put a SB ford in my truck and took it to a show they'd lynch me on the spot.  ;D
