You have to have the VIN to tell. The blocks are the same

6.0 LQ 9's came in the 02-up Escalades and 03-up SS Silverado's and some special order 05-07 Classic Silverado's V-MAX, all with 8th digit vin: "N"

6.0 LQ 4'S came in 01+ Denali's, 00+ Truck variant's, and Vans, all with 8th digit vin: "U"

the block will say 6.0 on the front behind the accessory bracket.. probally wont want to take the bracket off to see... so the vin number is gonna be your best bet. Other than that the only other way to tell is by the facotry airbox sticker... it says the liter displacement on the tag.

That won't tell you if it is a LQ4 or LQ9 as both are 6.0L motors.  The ONLY way to tell is the VIN...
