installing rear window

just removed a sliding window, now trying to install the solid rear. i tried searching but couldn't find anything on it. i have nylon rope, plastic trim tools, and soapy water...still no luck. so what's the secret?

Just set the bottom edge of the seal on the lip of the cab and use the cord to pull the lip out. Maybe your cord is too large in diameter. Have someone apply slight pressure while the cord is being pulled. Have the cord inserted in the seal prior to install. I have done a few on our trucks and never had a problem. But, it was from solid to slider, not that it should make a difference.

just found something for the 67-72 trucks that says to put the gasket on the glass first, then work it onto the cab? i'm trying with the rubber gasket on the cab, and working the glass into it. so which way?

Ive always had the seal on the glass first, but I cant remember if that is how the sliders came or not. Either way, it worked out good when I did it that way.

put the seal on the glass, insert the bottom and slowly use your plastic spoons working around the gasket working the seal in.  thats how i did mine when i switched from a solid back to a slider. took about 15 minutes. It was the first one i have done

Put the seal on the glass first.  If you have the chrome insert, put that in too.Wrap a long piece of rope around the glass so that the the ends meet at the top center. About 3/8" rope size works well. Sit the window and seal on the bottom of the frame from the outside with the rope inside the cab. Have a helper put some slight pressure against the glass to keep it snugged up against the frame and to keep it from falling.
 Work the top in a little and start pulling one end of the rope towards you. It will suck the rubber over the frame. Don't get in a hurry.
Work your way around the frame. When you get to somewhere around the bottom center with your rope, do the other side the sameway. The bottom corners can get a little tricky but like I said, take your time.

And one last tip

The 2 times I have installed back windows I have used Silicon Spray on the seal
Mine is from the back window manufacturer...C L Lawrence Spray Lubricant for glass install

Spray it all over everything so it's so slippery you'll hate yourself for spraying it

Then follow the directions from the other posts

Last tip...a glass installer told me never to bang on the glass, you'll shatter it if it's tight
Work it in with someone pushing gently on it from the outside
Don't worry if your rope overlaps @ the top
When you pull the rope out you will be able to work the last bit of seal in with a blade screwdriver but stay away from the glass edge so you don't crack or chip it

thanks guys, i was going at it the wrong way the first time. i tried with the rubber on the glass, and 1/4 rope in the rubber and it took about 5 minutes
