Divorce mount transfer case and 4WD conversion
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:19:02 am »
First off I guess this is the right spot to post in since I have a few random questions?

I’m sure someone on here can give me some insight. I am looking to divorce mount a NP205 behind a TH400. What year and model vehicles should I look for in the junkyard? What else will be needed? I’m good at welding and fabricating so I can make the cross members and such. Any opinions or suggestions?

Okay here is the plan; I have a 1986 C10 350/400 combo. I plan on converting it to 4WD this summer. The reason I plan on making this truck 4WD and not just sell it and buy one or get another frame is because the truck was garage kept from new until about 2003 so there is no rust on the body or frame. I’m also married to this truck with all the work and money I’ve put into it. I have a frame from a 1989 K5 Blazer about 2 hours from my house. I plan on going up there, cutting off the front half of the frame and brining the axles and stuff home so ill have all the brackets and such. I wanted to do the Divorce mount t-case so I can retain my 2WD 400 that was just rebuilt and help with my front driveline angle since my trucks a LWB. I have 6 lug wheels and 33” tires and a 10 bolt rear with matching gears for my front axle. Anything else I might be forgetting?

Any input is appreciated

With only 33s you don't need a divorce to get it all to work good just take a 4x4 trans out and swap everything or you will be buying or modding 3 drive shafts which might cost a pretty penny or like I said find a lwb 4x4 and taking the shafts and trany out resell or scrap the rest I would find an old farm truck most them were lwb anyway

You have to take the trans apart for that. But you could try to sell yours and use that to buy another maybe someone can help you out on the parts for the dev transfercase on here but I know I cant

Ill check in my buddys and mine spare parts and see what's just laying around I know there was a sm465 that was laying around have to see what else but if you were to grab that trans out of that blazer all you would need would be. Rear shaft. Do you know what the transfer case you have is off of?

okay thanks. and well the blazer its just a tub, frame and axles now. its actually my cousins blazer he pulled the engine trans and t-case for another project. i think i still have a 203 in my shed but iirc it wont stay in 4 low. i was thinking of just going to the junkyard and trying to find a 205 jut for strength...idk
