Crossmember surgery

I was cruising around Capt's website the other day and I stumbled upon the chopped crossmember page. I wanna do this for my bagged Jimmy project.
  One question thats got me a little perplexed is how to set it up for a rack and pinion. I've never done this before, and really want to. Do I weld in studs or drill the xmember and use hardened bolts to keep the rack in place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you have to weld rack mounts to the front of the crossmember and bolt the rack to the front of the mounts.

Drop Members = Porterbuilt.

I can still cut them, but the cost went up.

That's what I meant...chopped crossmember....wasn't too sure.  How much lower does a chopped crossmember get you?
