anyone dye carpet?
« on: August 03, 2010, 08:54:08 pm »
i'm trying to clean up the interior of my suburban, which was a disgusting mess. new parts are expensive, the stuff in the salvage yards are always the wrong color. so i'm thinking of 2 toning my interior, see if maybe i can dye the carpet... i never tried it before, and i figured maybe the interior dyes would work for carpet as well.

any suggestions?

done it, it works, it usually wears off or shows the original color thru after awhile but you can touch it up really easy and quick and it's usually only high traffic areas, like say the back floor if you don't have mats.

Never tried it on automotive carpet but a huge carpet at our research center was dyed and it looked great for as long as it lasted.  Some professionals came in and took care of it.

at least 4-6 cans to make sue you get it good enough for the whole carpet. If you want door panels seats and all that's another story. I think I bought 12-14 cans and 4-6 krylon fusion blacks for my monte carlo interior and I did it ALL black, seats trim dash carpet everything. As for stains the dye covers them too. My mcss carpet had rusty stains and others on it and it was grey and I dyed it back grey to start with and it covered nicely. I later done it all black though with the rest of the interior.
