a buddy of mine has a 87 crew cab he is building.  2 years ago he dropped a jasper 350 in the truck.  It is a centerbolt valve cover engine, TBI fuel injected.  He got a good deal on a 2004 vortec 327 complete so I bought his engine!  it has 48,000 miles on it, the TBI was replaced the same time as the engine, all censors were just replaced, just dropped a 300 dollar distributor in it the other day, new headers, and rebuilt still under warranty th400 tranny.  Got it all including the complete wiring harness and ECU for 700 bucks!  I'm debating on keeping the TBI or selling it all off and sticking with a carb.  My truck is an 84 GMC.  I am going to sell the 400 tranny and keep my 700r4.

I fogot to mention the best part of it, the engine was installed March 2009, has 48,000 miles on it and has a TRANSFERBALE PARTS AND LABOR 3 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY!!!!!!!!  Still under warranty and another friend of mine is a installer for Jasper engines, he's gonna help me do the swap in his shop so it will maintain the warranty.

I'm thinking about keeping the fuel injection, I am getting the engine wire harness and ecu.  The truck the motor came from was orginally a 700r4 also.  How much trouble will it be to wire the ecu and fuel injection into my 84 model?

I would recommend swapping in the TBI set up. It's a simple F.I. setup and not hard at all to do. Since the engine and wiring and ECM came out of a Chevy Pickup it really just comes down to hooking up ignition, battery and ground leads. The only issue is running a return fuel line and installing a sending unit for F.I. in the tank.

Will a F.I. sending unit fit in my factory 84 model tank?  If not, could I just run an external electric pump and pressure regulator?

You need a FI tank too, it has baffle is in that the carbed tanks don't have.
You CAN run the carb tank with FI, but you WILL burn out your pump much quicker, since it is in the tank and the fuel cools it.
No baffles= Fuel Slosh=hot running fuel pump=short pump life

    That is a smoking deal, that should be a nice upgrade for your truck.

S&P have had good success with running tanks without baffles for years as long as you keep enough fuel in it the pump will be fine.
