There are no "detents" in the column...The shifter just slides freely through the arch of motion. The detents that you feel are in the transmission. A roller assembly rides over a toothed paw.
Some guys have said they couldn't get Low 1 when changing from a TH350 to the 700. I'm not sure if there are something like cab sagging issues that may be involved. I didn't have any trouble when I did mine...I just tweaked the z-bar a bit to clear the header & have all gear positions.
I'm not a real 4x4 expert so someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, however the transmission output shaft is the same spline & the 4 tail housing bolts are the same pattern...so if you have a 4x4 700, I'd guess it's a go. Hope this helps, Lorne
