Clutch questions
« on: May 02, 2011, 03:28:48 am »
So, I just crawled under my dash to pull a wire through the fire wall and I noticed a little pivot point for what I believe would be a spring and a small hole on the clutch assembly that I believe is for the other side of the spring. Ive always wondered why my clutch pedal had.so much wiggle at the top of it. So, where could I get a new spring? And I believe I am in need of a new clutch in the near future because I only have about an inch of grab left in the pedal. The rest is just play and it is adjusted so the grab is in the middle of the pedal stroke, so ok know its not out of adjustment. Im not looking.to spend a ton of money, but I need something that will last I believe I have the borg and beck style, but can someone describe the two types so I know which I have? Thanks guys.

Borg and Beck has three fingers in the pressuer plate and use coil springs that the through out bearing pushes against.
Diaphragm has lots of tiny fingers made of spring steel.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Ease of pedal is one of their caracteristics. I have taken them apart and had a few fingers missing, and a few bent. I am not a fan of them. I always install Borg and Beck style. They are a slightly harder to push the pedal, not much difference. I have never taken one apart and found parts missing or bent with them though. I have always been told by old timers that they are a heavier duty style. Heavy duty is good in my book.
