Anyone know what this is for?

Here is a picture of a switch.  It is on the firewall of my 86 Silverado passenger side.  The vacuum line goes to a port on the carb.  Any idea what it switches? - Thanks guys.

Tip in switch for the distributor. Do you have the stock distributor or have you converted to an older style?

So do I need this or is it a source for problems?  Do I need to  replace the distributor to eliminate it?

All the tip in switch does is retard your timing a bit on acceleration. If you haven't really noticed a problem, you're probably fine. You could either convert to an older style distributor or get a 4 pin module which eliminates the ESC.
