What front suspension components would you replace?
« on: May 17, 2011, 03:02:32 pm »
I am redoing my front suspension with a Porterbuilt stage 1 kit. Basically, it comes with airbags shocks and brackets and uses the factory control arms. At this point in my build, I just can't justify a grand for tubular control arms. I am also swapping the stock spindle for a belltech 3" drop spindle and replacing all of the bushings with polyurethane.

It's a 33 year old truck that has been sitting for the past few years, so I am guessing rubber parts like the ball joints and tie rod ends are probably shot.  While it's taken apart I figure it's a good time to replace some of these items and was looking for advice on what all should be done.

As for the steering, it will remain factory manual steering for now, while I work on getting everything else tackled. A few years down the road I will probably do a porterbuilt drop member and swap out the steering at that time.

I think you covered it already but to recap, new bushings and balljoints for the control arms, for the steering, tie rods, Idler arms ....

I generally get these:
