holley 650 dp on a 305? ??????

Ok so i have an 86 gmc sierra 1500 3 spd. It has a 305 with hedman hedders 2.5 inch exhaust with flowmasters. The quadrajet is way out of tune its leaking a bit my exhaust smells like gas and it runs like crap.

I have a 650 dp with mech secondarys and was wonering if i could get away with using it on my 305 as i dont really have cash for another carb. Its for my 350 build over the winter but i just need the rest of the year out of t as my eyes are burning from the exhaust fumes

its easy to rebuild the carb with the right info. there are videos on you tube and books to help you out.

Yes i know that they arnt too hard to rebuild. I just have a rebuilt holley 650 dp sitting on the shelf and it takes 10 min to bolt it on.

I would use it, if you need to you could run smaller jets. I run a holley 600 on my 4.3 in my s10 and it ran perfect.

Well im gonna put it on tomorow and see how it runs. Just have to go buy an inline filter.

imo 600 is too big for a 305 let alone 650

Well just put it on and man does it make that motor wind up. Idles perfect and no bogs whatso ever. Just got to fix a small fuel leak lol. Should there be an o ring or do i use teflon tape where the fuel lines go into the carb?

Gas will eat away the teflon tape. just tighten it up. Im glad it worked out for you.
