Identify this axle?
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:11:41 pm »
Can anyone Identify this axle as a 10 bolt or D44 or whatever else it may be? I need to start looking around for 8 lug rotors to convert it from 6 lug. Thanks

Its tricky for me to identify it with out seeing the cover, but the shape I'm seeing there suggests a 44

10 bolt or 44 doesn't matter. As long as you get from the spindles out they are all the same.
Only difference, and I don't recall the exact year is the legnth of the spindle changed, this makes the depth of the hub different. In other words you can't use the deeper hub with the shorter spindle, or visa versa.

Key words "looks like" a deal. We took the trailer out there, took a look at it. Uh uh. The whole front clips off(expected) but so was all the front steering, the exhaust and headers were off, the tores were flat, the engine sat unprotected in the rain for 4+ years. Field nice/rats nested in the cab and the whole interior was destroyed by poop and grass etc. although, I offered him 100 for the front axle. He declined, but there was an extra one laying on the ground behind the truck. It was an 8 lug 10 bolt. He said 50 bucks and I took it. Its been sitting in the weather for probably 4 years too. Its missing the short side axle shaft, hub assembly, and rotor/hub. I pulled the cover and its 3.73s. Atill had gear oil in it and had no rust. The driver side rotor is seized from surface rust. So itll need some parts and a freshen up, but at least i have my starting point for 4wd conversion. And the fender guy, exactly as I expected. Had no idea what he was talking about. He said the front fenders for 40, he showed up at the gas station with wheel wells. I think he stole all rhe parta  vut yeah. Thats what happened.
