So I crashed the Blazer today
« on: August 23, 2011, 01:16:59 pm »
Travelling during rush hour this morning. Pulling out a side street, saw the red car on the brow of a hill, quite some distance away, I pull out to the centre line of the road, stopping to wait for a large van coming from my left, the opposite way to the red car, then I hear skidding, look to my right and see the red car hurtling towards me. We were in a 30, she was going way faster than that, must have been. Plus it had been raining this morning, for the first time in about 2 weeks, the road surface was really greasy.  So blam she hits me.

She was fine, as were her passengers, I'm fine. I guess that's all that matters really!

Her car was WRECKED!!! The Blazer is ok, only cosmetic I think/hope. Plus it needs a new track rod.

Her car:

Well I'm not holding much hope. Basically I got caught out. I was the minor road and had give way lines. The Police did turn up and he said that he was going to recommend I wasnt prosecuted, simply because I was stationary and it was wet etc etc.

I'm not going to admit liability on here (just in case!) but I can see how the insurance companies will view it.

Im more embarrassed than anything, but I've never had an accident before so guess 13 years of driving isn't bad going!!

lol i rear ended an old lady one time cause we left a stop light and about 20' from the light she stops in the middle of the road. i tried to stop but nothing no lock up or anything. i get a following to closely ticket i told the cop how was this when we just left the light. he said it was either that or negligent driving. so i took the following to closely lol. come to find out when i tried to stop my big foot press the gas and brakes at the same time being a front wheel drive car it kind of hindered me from stopping till i found her rear bumper. it happens sound like you said the other driver wasn’t paying attention or was flying.

Thats a bummer man.  Glad no one was hurt though.  At rush hour sometimes the only way you can get across a street is by pulling out and relying that oncoming traffic has enough brains to slow down/brake till you can blend in the opposite lane.  I know technically that is not yielding the right of way, but in bigger cities it is sometimes the only thing you can do.

I had a lady pull out in front of me in a very similar car to what hit you.  I was going 50ish and pulling 6000#+ of 4x4 and trailer.  She was just pulling out of a MickeyD's drive through and didn't even look for traffic on the 3 lane road.  Then didn't even accelerate till she heard my horn and all she could see was Suburban grill in her rear view.  I could see her eyes get big and round!  I was boxed in on the left and some idiot was parked on the shoulder so all I could do is brake, lay on the horn and plow into her.  Her rear bumper almost pushed to the rear seat and she had to wait for a tow.  I had a bent bumper like yours, a dent in the fender where the bumper flexed back and the grill broke it's last tabs.  Lucky there were witnesses that stopped so she was at fault.  Her car was totaled and her insurance gave me $1200 or so.

Hope yours works out.

Thats exactly what I said to the police officer, but hopefully because he didn’t write me up at the time, they wont run with prosecuting me. Oh well.... fingers crossed!!

Also I feel it’s a bit unfair, because if she’d been travelling at the speed limit, I would have been able to get out behind the van before she’d have been anywhere near me. I think she was definitely in a rush, cause she had her husband in the car, looked like she was dropping him at work, he was wearing a waiters uniform.  ::)

Sounds like both of you were driving on the wrong side of the road  ;) Sorry, couldn't help myself. Glad you are ok, the rest should be an easy fix.

As always, glad to hear everyone involved is ok.  Even though it is a bummer, material things can be replaced.
