Brake light problem
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:41:18 am »
On my brothers 77, when he got it the brake lights worked. The hazards worked, turn signals wouldnt flash, front or back. so, I pulled the hazard flasher out and put it in the turn signal spot, the turn signals worked all thr way around. Then, tonight my brother said his turn signals werent working on the rear. I looked under the truck and there was a wire coming from the engine bay wire nutted into the left and right brake light wires. I butt connected the original wires back on and the turn signals work, but the brake lights dont. Does the hazard flasher have to be in for the brake.lights to work? Fuse is.good, plug at the base of the steering column is good.

Forgot to mention, we replaced the brake light switch. Thats the first thing I expected it to be. Also, I put the flasher back into the hazard plug and the hazards dont flash anymore, from the front, back, or dash. Doesnt even click..... But the flasher works in the turn signal plug. Grrrrr. This whole truck has been hacked. So, I followed the wire that used to be wire nutted onto the left and right brake light wires. It went along the frame and into the firewall, I found it on the inside, but it was disconnected and I cant find where it used to be connected.... Where under the dash could I find wires that are for the brake light switch? Theres an orange and white wire and a purple and red wire into the switch(cruise control?). But they both go into the main loom so I can follow them. Does anyone know somewhere else they may be accessed than at the switch?

Sorry for the comment about the rigged wires.
