What is this?

It slides onto the in cab fuse block.  The silver doo-hickey is plugged into it and does get hot.  My truck once had cruise control but no longer does.  What is this?

Hit your horn with it unplugged and see if it sounds. It looks like the horn relay.

     It is a relay fuse.  The part number 14014527 comes up as a " control fuel tank meter selector  "  Hope that helps.

The horn still honks and no kaboom!  And the fuel tank selector switch still works.  Still a mystery and can't find it anywhere on the web. Any other suggestions?

wierd...my 79 tank switch wiring goes directly to the firewall, then down along the frame to the tanks. never touches that.

i think i have this too… mines a 78 and had dual tanks.

     It doesn't mean it wont work if it is not hooked up, it is a relay fuse, maybe it is made to blow before something else more important burns out or as you stated goes "kaboom"

what im saying is that its not hooked up to any part of my fuel wiring at all and I have stock wiring.

When you say your dual tank selector is still working, can you actually hear the valve under the truck clunk...  could be it looks like it works because it switches the gauges but not the valve.  if that relay controls anything, it has to be the valve itself.  nothing else takes much power.  apparently that's an '80 only item.

sounds like there's some strange wiring going on here.  if that is a relay, whatever it goes to WILL NOT work when its unplugged, or it would have been un needed and GM wouldnt have put $$ into designing it and installing it in their trucks.  if it is a dual tank relay, and its not affecting them, sounds like the PO hacked up the wiring for you.


abbout it being a horn relay, dunno about 80 but in 77 and 78 i know the relay is not at the fuse block but it 6 or 7 inches above it, in the far left corner taped in the wiring.  should be black IIRC.

i know the valve under the truck works because both tanks work. All of my wiring is untouched. I wonder if it has something to do with the gauge reading instead. I believe there is a wire that comes off the cab switch and runs somewhere to the back of the fuse block. I figured it was just a power wire.

Maybe GM gave you an extra relay so you can wire up some nitros on that 427 (not that it needs it)
