Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour 2012
« on: August 23, 2011, 08:42:11 pm »
I was just doing some research on when the Power Tour is next year, and its going from Detroit to San Antonio over 6/2-6/8 with the long haulers award on 6/9.

I really want to do this, I think it'd be a blast to put over 4k miles on the truck in a couple weeks.

This will be the first time I've taken one of my own vehicles, but I went with a good friend back in 2007 and it was just a blast.

Anyone else interested in getting some miles on their square?

One day I hope to make the trip. It will be after I get the 5.3 in my 2wd 86 GMC
However if I get the deisel running right in my other 86 excab, it may happen sooner. It wont be much for power but it'll run the speed limit. ;D. Id just enjoy.the cruise.

I plan to make one of these, just not sure when and making the whole run may be a stretch with a 4-5 year old.

I went with my buddy in his 71 Chrysler in the 2006 Power Tour if I recall.  Overall it was a great experience, it was a little repetitious after a couple of stops.  For the spectator coming to 1000+ car show it would be great, but as a driver seemed like all we did was follow each other and take directions, reminded me of a field trip when I was still in school.  It might have been different if we went with a bunch of guys we knew. With fuel prices hovering $3.50 or so, 4K miles + motels + food would make for a really expensive week out...

Yeah, I agree, and the 4k miles would be my total travel. I may hold off for 2013 and see where it goes from San Antonio, if it heads back this way than even better!

I did part of '10 and '11, had a lot of fun. It was great cruising with a bunch of hot cars/trucks, pulling into a station or restaurant to see a bunch of other cool cars/trucks, then pulling out on the road to join a different buch of cool cars/trucks. You get my point. Cool vehicles EVERYWHERE!
It will be hard to decide in '12, due to it not coming very close to 'bama. But my wife wants to do the whole thing. Maybe about 2600-2800 miles for us.

I'm planning on doing it the year after my truck is done. I also Need to do an air conditioning install as I heard it's grueling without it
