So awhile back, the battery just died overnight with no warning. Jumped it off but it died like it wasn't getting fuel or spark. New battery got it home, then dead the next morning. I'd replaced a tail light a few days before but I don't think that was the issue.
So I had the alternator rebuilt. The guy said it was the wrong one for that year though. It's an 87 with the 4.3. He said I had a 78 amp and needed a 100. It had been running fine with it for years though, so I figured I could have it going for awhile with the one rebuilt.
With the alt. bypassed it would hold a charge overnight, and with it rebuilt it still holds charge, but if I put it in gear it'll die pretty quick. I put a test light between the neg. cable and the battery and it blew instantly. Not sure how to put a meter on it without ruining it.
Anyway, what should I be looking for and how should I go about testing for the problem? Thanks for the help in advance.
